Briffault's law is a theory that suggests that in relationships between men and women, the woman determines the terms of the relationship and that any association between the man and woman will only occur if the woman derives some benefit from the association. The theory includes several corollaries, including the idea that past benefit provided by the man does not guarantee continued or future association, that any agreements in which the man provides a current benefit in return for a promise of future association are null and void as soon as the man provides the benefit, and that a promise of future benefit has limited influence on current or future association with the influence being inversely proportional to the length of time until the benefit will be given and directly proportional to the degree to which the woman trusts the man. The book will expand on this theory and discuss its implications for relationships between men and women.
