In this book, the author had chosen to study the little-known Chinese Diaspora living primarily in Kalimpong and Siliguri of the district of Darjeeling located in the northern part of West Bengal, India. The book provides good empirical evidence dealing with social structure and social change in Chinese society including the life of the said community.

The book has turned out to be a very informative account of the Chinese population in North Bengal who has internalized the new forces and factors of change. The author very meticulously noted their functional relationship with the local neighbouring communities and also highlighted how those interlocking relationships helped them integrate with the local societies of the host country.

The book will serve the interest of those who are inclined to learn about the life of the Chinese Diaspora who have been living in India since historical times. For Sociology and Anthropology, this book will prove to be of great academic relevance.
