Fly, Oli, Fly! is one of five bilingual (English and Chinese) children's storybooks in the Baby King and Friends series. The stories are about the adventures of Baby King, a baby kingfisher, and his friends as they visit the different parks in Singapore, make new friends and learn many new things. Written at a time when the COVID-19 outbreak prevented young children from going out of their homes, the stories helped to bring the outdoors to those who were cooped up at home. By following Baby King's adventures, readers are able to experience the outdoors. The stories aim to nurture an appreciation of nature as well as appeal to young readers' curiosity. Simply written and colorfully illustrated, each story also contains a simple message.In Fly, Oli, Fly, Baby King and his father, Papa King, visited their relatives in one of the beautiful parks. There, he found out from his aunt that what he heard about a baby owl falling from a tree was true. Aunty King pointed out where Oli, the baby owl, lived. He was trying to fly. As he looked, Baby King saw Oli fall to the ground. The little owl climbed up to his nest and tried to fly again. He fell many times and was in tears. But with the encouragement of Baby King and others, Oli eventually succeeded after many painful attempts. Both Baby King and Oli realised then why they should not give up when learning something important.The early childhood years are the best time to learn languages, and reading bilingual stories is a good way to learn the English and Chinese languages.
