For those unfamiliar with the Silent Twins story, I would like to share a tale that will forever alter your life. In many ways, this was the saddest and most devastating narrative of love and loss ever written... but it also teaches us so much about ourselves and the world we live in that it cannot help but be uplifting as well. However, if you do not enjoy reading about death and suffering, I would advise you not to read this book!

June and Jennifer Gibbons, identical twins from London who were born in the 1940s, were inseparable—so inseparable, in fact, that they never developed linguistic abilities beyond twin-speak. It is unknown whether their condition was caused by autism or schizophrenia, but it is evident that the girls' lives were terrible and ended prematurely.

Extremely bullied and shunned as the only Black family in the community, the pair retreated into one another. Despite their lifelong struggle with mental illness, the lives of the silent twins were filled with sorrow, but also love, commitment, and hope.
