He'd been sent to live with an uncle in Maine, but there he got into more trouble and was sent to sea. He was soon arrested and sent to reform school, to remain there until he turned 21, but he was permitted to leave when his aunt and cousin agreed to give him another chance to learn good habits and right living, and opened their home to him.
