(According to legend, in the past Kunyu Mountain, the first celestial mountain on the sea, was not inhabited. One day mother goddess Nüwa molded two figures from the yellow earth and flew up to Kunyu Mountain, giving them life. They turned into a young man and a young woman who descend on Kunyu Mountain. At first they called each other brother and sister. Later they became ancestors to locals living around Kunyu Mountain and came to be known as "Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao"。 Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao settled on Kunyu Mountain. At first they were without clothing, food or shelter, and were harassed by mountain and sea spirits. With the help of local God of Land, Dragon King and Princess they overcame various difficulties and survived. Later they became adults and were going to be married. The God of Land challenged them with three "difficult tasks". They were asked to "thread a needle", "grind together" and find the "twinned trunks". The three tasks did not stop them. Though they had a bit hard time finding the twinned trunks, they completed all the tasks in the end in a dramatic way. The God of Land presided over the wedding (which continue to be performed to this day). They were deeply in love, produced offspring and underwent deadly challenges like cold, starvation and pain of disease. Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao invented fire and began eating cooked food, used animal skin to make clothes and invented tools for life and production. Human civilization developed. Their children grew up and lived on Kunyu Mountain for generations. They fought the evil spirits and protected the mountain forest. Centuries later Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao's offspring covered the mountain and surrounding areas, making a living by fishing, hunting, stock raising and farming. On the hundred-year birthday of Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao children went to Kunyu Mountain bringing things they invented and produced to celebrate. Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao were overjoyed by they sight. Grandpa Gao and Grandma Gao were ancestors of locals living in and near Kunyun Mountain. They founded local civilization. To commemorate them people built a temple on Kunyu Mountain. Their stories are still told in places near the mountain.)
