What is marketing? Many people assume marketing is just advertising or selling products and services to people. Marketing is much more complex than this. It is a vital activity for the success of any company or organisation. Think about it this way: How do consumers become aware of products and services?     Ms Nicole Cunningham has worked as a lecturer in the Department of Marketing Management at the University of Johannesburg. Over the past four years she has lectured to undergraduate, postgraduate and corporate students. Her passion lies with first-year students and over the past few years she's struggled to find a textbook that adequately addresses students' needs; this is how this textbook came about. She is actively involved in academic research and is currently in the process of completing her PhD in the field of Marketing.
