The SDL platform includes a Core Collection; additional titles can be purchased on-demand by the library.
To broaden the SDL Core Collection for the 2007/2008 school year, OverDrive worked with an advisory group of educators, librarians, and publishers. As a result, there are now two kinds of usage models in the Core Collection, '1 copy/1 student' and 'Maximum Access'. The '1 copy/1 student' model includes popular titles that allow a single copy of a title to be checked out by a single student at a given point in time. Additional copies of such titles may be purchased. Students may place a 'hold' to reserve a title if it is checked out, and will be notified via email when it becomes available. The 'Maximum Access' model includes titles that are always available and can be checked out by multiple students simultaneously. There will never be a 'hold' on these titles.
